Kent Nagano
|
Bavarian State Orchestra Artist: Nagano, Kent Composer: Beethoven, Ludwig van The 2009 Orchestra of the Year – when the journal “Opernwelt” bestowed this honorary title on the Bavarian State Orchestra, it was undoubtedly a big nod in the direction of its highly revered head conductor Kent Nagano. Rather than displaying the violently thrashing style of so many of his contemporaries, his emphasis is on elegance and continuity instead of impact without purpose. An American of Japanese heritage, he studied in France, and has a particular affinity with the German musical repertoire. Those who draw from so many different sources certainly need a strong inner compass – and Nagano’s compass guided him straight to the top, where he has remained for years with his quiet, subtle and reserved demeanour – a cavalier amongst conductors. |
