Pierre-Laurent Aimard

Sunday Matinee

At first sight it might be possible to draw the wrong conclusions when reading tonight’s programme. Chopin, Liszt, Beethoven and Ravel – the usual works pianists present in order to draw the masses. But don’t be fooled! Pierre-Laurent Aimard began his formidable career with Stockhausen, Ligeti and Co. He is an expert in contemporary music, and it is with this background that he is now approaching the classics. The fact that these works are being aproached from a fresh angle, with a steely glaze and without false traditions is highly beneficial to them. Pierre-Laurent Aimard is currently considered one of the “hottest” pianists of today. He has a contract with Deutsche Grammophon – despite the fact the he is over 30 and was never a model. A nice exception to the norm, which should count as recommendation enough.
