Hamburg Ballett - John Neumeier
'A Streetcar Named Desire'
|
A ballet like a clap of thunder. A ballet that banishes like the eye of a snake.” Such was the jubilation by “Die Welt” over the work which perhaps doesn’t appear to be so typically ‘Neumeier’ at first glance. So much for pretty people in dreamlike surroundings! Here the ballet-o-meter points directly to high voltage, the emotions are raw, and the New Orleans atmosphere – where the action takes place – has clearly influenced the choreography considerably. Neumeier is truly the conjuror of beauty, and the wonderful Pas de deux - something for which this artist is considered the reformer - are also included here. “A Streetcar Named Desire” is a drama which became famous as a film – as a ballet it now finally achieves the characteristics of a classic.
