Herbert von Karajan Music Prize 2010: Daniel Barenboim

He began as a world-class pianist and developed into a conductor of world renown. In addition, he is a music philosopher - succeeding Celibidaches - and also a political activist. His commitment to the reconciliation of Jews and Palestinians has earned him many admirers and friends. Daniel Barenboim likes to sit on the fence - probably the best place for an artist, as from there he can retain his autonomy. Incidentally, it was Barenboim who first discovered Lang Lang as an artist to be taken seriously. In addition he performs on our Festspielhaus stage, and has proved time and again that he is one of the true masters of his craft. We congratulate the maestro on his Herbert von Karajan Music Prize in 2010! |
