Where once knights courted beautiful maidens...
...is now where you and your damsel can enjoy breathtaking views of the Black Forest, the Rhine valley, sun blessed vineyards and idyllic wine villages. The climb is a little strenuous, so your glass of good local wine, at the top, is all the more rewarding!
Crown your achievement of reaching the top of the Yburg with a coffee and a slice of cake, or even a rustic ploughman’s lunch, on the castle terrace. And settle back and cast an eye over the wonderful vineyards. If you are lucky, you will be able to see as far as the French Vosges Mountains.
The former knights's castle Yburg is located atop the Yburg mountain in the village of Baden-Baden Varnhalt, 4 miles southwest of the center of Baden-Baden. Built around 1200 and destroyed in 1689, its medieval tower still stands among the remains of the castle wall. It’s easy to find. Simply follow the signposts.
