On the occasion of the Reichskanzler Otto Fürst von Bismarck’s (1815 – 1898) 100th birthday, the monumental limestone statute was created in a medieval Roland statue style in 1915. Bismarck visited Baden-Baden several times between 1845 and 1865 as a Prussian diplomat and politician. In 1895, the town honoured Otto von Bismarck with the title of honorary citizen.
