Black Forest Panoramic Road

The Black Forest Panoramic Road, known locally as the Schwarzwaldhochstraße, is Baden-Baden’s direct link to the wonderful world of the Black Forest. Starting in Baden-Baden, the road heads south towards the town of Freudenstadt, passing places of interest such as the Mummelsee mountain lake, and the peaks of the Schliffkopf, the Alexandraschanze and the Kniebis.

You’re on vacation, you’ve got all the time in the world, so do stop every now and again to enjoy the scenery and the spectacular views over the Rhine valley and Vosges Mountains. Take every opportunity you have to fill your lungs with aromatic Black Forest air and make sure you stock up with Black Forest ham and local Kirschwasser liqueur at the Mummelsee Lake. Make the most of the opportunity of being that little bit closer to the sky. Thousands would dream of being in your shoes right now!

Even in winter a journey along the Schwarzwaldhochstraße is well worth its while. When the last autumn leaves fall from the trees in Baden-Baden, the higher ground is normally covered with its first blanket of snow. Properly equipped with winter tires, you can venture into the snowy climbs of the Black Forest, where you can even try your hand at some winter sports, such as skiing, tobogganing or cross-country skiing. Even a bracing winter walk will put you in fine fettle for your return to the rigors of town life!
