Dahlia garden

In 2004, the Freunde des Dahliengartens association and many dedicated Baden-Baden residents managed to achieve what many thought would be impossible: Lichtentaler Allee has its Dahlia garden again.

Dahliengarten Baden-Baden

Every year, around 1,800 dahlias of 64 different varieties, ranging from the smaller ball dahlias and the water lily dahlias to the larger cactus dahlias, bloom in late summer, impressing thousands of visitors from near and far with their vibrant colours.

Each variety is presented in its own elliptical bed. Like the petals of a dahlia flower, the beds are grouped round two circular bench areas extending outwards, with the faster-growing varieties emphasising the centre, thus harmoniously incorporating the two large ‘dahlia flowers’ into the landscape of the extensive park near Klosterwiese: one ‘flower’ in the colours of red, orange and yellow and the other in white, pink and violet.

The magnificent dahlias are complemented by the busts of composers Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann and Robert Stolz, who were connected to Lichtentaler Allee in a unique way. And as an architectural highlight, the Bénazet pavilion is a wonderful place from which to enjoy the dahlias.
